I’m driving down the highway, Florida Georgia Line is playing in the background, the heat from my sunroof keeping me warm, but I’m taking in the fresh autumn breeze. I’m singing at the top of my lungs, surrounded by big, old, beautiful trees, taken aback by the emotions I am feeling as I stare back at the vibrant orange and red hues of fall. It’s my favourite season, without question. Hallowe’en was always a favourite event of mine as a kid (who doesn’t want a pillowcase full of candy?!); it’s not too hot or too cold in Canada; school is starting; routines are new and exciting; and the best shows, books and movies are out. As I watch the leaves slowly fall from the branches, I am reminded of another reason that fall is my favourite season: change.
As I cruise down the highway, I have butterflies in my stomach. Just as the seasons prepare to change, I am ready to change seasons in my career as well. I am excited and nervous to share that I am moving onto the next step in my professional life as a Digital Strategist at Service Inspired Restaurants, developing multi-channel marketing strategies for a diverse portfolio of 58 highly successful restaurants in Canada and one in the United States. I will oversee the day-to-day strategy and execution of SIR Corp’s digital marketing initiatives, including social media, search engine marketing, digital advertising, online reviews and website maintenance. I’m excited to work with a team of strong, motivated individuals to create marketing and communication plans that bridge the gap between web, email, mobile and social.
I recently was referred to the book Lean In by Sheryl Sandberg. The book makes the case for leaning in, for being ambitious in any pursuit. Starting a new chapter can be scary, no doubt… but for me, if it doesn’t give that feeling, it’s not the right fit. I am thrilled to start this next chapter and continue my journey of professional growth. With that being said I wouldn’t be the woman I am without supportive friends, family and those in my professional circle that continually encourage me to push forward, chase my ambition and truly lean in.
I continue my journey down the highway and Taylor Swift’s new album is blasting in the background. I feel content with my decision, knowing that my hunger for growth will always lead me in the right direction. For me, new opportunities are exciting and change is necessary for growth. I’m looking forward to taking this leap in my career and I am ready to hit the ground running!
