My Carrie Bradshaw Moment: Welcome to the (new) blog
Originally published March 1, 2019
Hey there, thanks for stopping by! Welcome to my website and blog, beccagrieb.com – as much as I hate to add salt to the wound I think it’s important that you know how we got here and what happened to my original website. In the spring of 2018 I received an email that my domain was sold and website had been removed. I immediately went to beccagrieb.com and received the dreaded “this site cannot be reached” message that we have all grown to know all too well. To give this moment some additional context, this was 10+ years of blogging, gone. Vanished, Poof. That’s hundreds of blog posts and over 25,000 monthly page views, gone. I felt a little like Carrie Bradshaw when her laptop died. Despite my best efforts and many phone calls to data/tech/web experts, it was gone and all I could do was drink a big glass of wine, cry and move on. So, that’s why we are here. However, I don’t like to dwell on the past or things I cannot change – so, welcome to my new website and blog! I’m so glad you’re here. Two things have stayed the same–my domain and you, my loyal readers.
Now that we got that out of the way, let’s get started. Who is Becca Grieb anyways? If you’re coming back after following my blog over the last few years, thank you. If this is the first time we’ve met, allow me to introduce myself:
Over ten years ago I started a blog which eventually grew into beccagrieb.com. I have written over 500 blogs and have over 25,000 monthly website visitors. So who am I? My name is Rebecca Grieb, but everyone calls me Becca. I grew up in Waterloo, Ontario and am proud to call Canada home. I’m a marketing communications expert with 10+ years of experience in the industry. I specialize in public relations and digital marketing, and have worked with a variety of brands in technology, health and wellness, food and beverage, and fashion. I’m passionate about storytelling as I believe that behind every great company is a solid brand, and behind that brand is an incredible story waiting to be told.
I started BG Communications (now rebranded to Kind & Slate) in 2012 with one goal in mind: to help businesses tell their stories in a compelling way. I’ve developed digital strategies for large corporations, have managed the day-to-day social media and pay-per-click accounts for small business owners, and successfully ran an award-winning PR and social media campaign, to name a few. BG Communications started as a one woman freelance business and has grown into a slightly less traditional version of a communications agency. I have partnered with five amazingly talented individuals who specialize in graphic design, web design, social media, email marketing and public relations. Together as a team we make business ideas and goals a reality.
The other hat I wear is that of a digital marketing instructor at Conestoga College. I was first introduced to the college in 2014 when I was asked to host a digital marketing workshop with the Integrated Marketing Communications post-graduate students. That workshop grew into a course and that course grew into multiple courses. Fast forward to 2018, I graduated with my MA in Communications and Technology and my research focused on learning about student behaviours with social media in the classroom. I am SO excited to share that my research is actively being put to work and I am designing new digital marketing courses for the college.
The pieces of paper hanging on my wall include a BA from Wilfrid Laurier University, a Graduate Certificate in Corporate Communications and Public Relations from Fanshawe College, and a MA in Communications and Technology from the University of Alberta. I am also currently studying in the LEAD program at Stanford University. You can read more about me here, too.
Not hanging on my wall but equally as important is my love of reading, a desire to constantly be learning, TED Talks, my chocolate lab Nixon, being a mama to the best little boy; my passion for travel and meeting new people, and my belief in Grit as a skill for success. A few extra fun facts: I’m an extroverted introvert; love to eat pickles (dill, to be specific); meditate everyday; am obsessed with roasted brussel sprouts; and always prefer to swim in the deep end (metaphorically, that is. Introverts, I know you hear me!).
If I’m fortunate enough to still have you reading, thank you. I couldn’t be more excited to introduce you to my new blog and website. One chapter closed, another opened. Thanks for stopping by!
